[Class 119] An' automatic firearm having a tilting breechblock 3 mounted in a carrier 4 which is actuated in one direction by a short-stroke gas-piston 8 and in the other direction by a spring 14, has means for facilitating the insertion or removal of the gas-piston. The piston rod 7 whose rear end 9 actuates the breech-block carrier, is slotted at 18 to receive the pivot-pin 17 of a hinged member 20 of inverted U-section. this member having lugs 25 which are adapted to engage in recesses in the front of the breech-casing 2. A spring 15 in the rod 7 abuts against a member on the pivot 17 in order to thrust the member 20 firmly into locked engagement with the casing, so that it constitutes a guide for the piston rod 7, and this spring effects also the return movement of the piston. Surfaces 22 on the piston rod and 23 on the member 20 limit the rearward movement of the piston rod. The member 20 may be formed to constitute a dusttight cover for the aperture in the casing through which the gas-piston is inserted or removed. |
