525,642. Dyes. GEIGY AKT.-GES., J. R. Feb. 24, 1939, No. 6187. Convention date, Feb. 26,1938. Addition to 507,967. [Class 2(iii)] Disazo dyes of the general formula (where A=aryl, R=a benzene residue coupled in p-position, and Y=OH, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or an amino or substituted amino group) are made by coupling the diazo compound of a monoazo dye of the formula with a phenol coupling in p-position and treating the product with an arylsulphochloride, only coupling the diazo compound of a monoazo dye of the formula with 2:8:3:6-acid and treating the product with an arylsulphochloride. In examples, (1) the dyestuff 4-nitraniline-6-sulphonic acid# 2:8:3:6- acid is reduced, diazotized, coupled with phenol or m-cresol and the product treated with p-toluenesulphochloride (violet on wool) ; other aryl-sulphochlorides, e.g., benzene- or p-chlorbenzene-sulphochloride may be used, (2) the dyestuff 4-nitraniline-6-sulphoethylanilide# 2:8: 3:6-acid is reduced, diazotized, coupled with phenol, and treated with p-toluene sulphochloride ; other specified components are the corresponding sulphonic acid amides or diethyl- or dimethyl-amides or the methyl-sulphone, and (3) the dyestuff 4-nitro-2-methoxyaniline- 5-sulphonic acid# phenol is reduced, diazotized, coupled with 2:8:3:6-acid and treated with ptoluenesulphochloride. |
