A lamp (1) consists of a base member (3) that accommodates at least one light source (5), an edge area (11c) on the base which is directed to the area to be illuminated, and a transparent cover panel (8) which at least partially covers the edge area. The base body and the cover panel only converge at the outer edge of the cover panel, and a free space is formed in-between, allowing light from the source to enter directly as far as the cover panel.
