[Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XXV] A garnish moulding comprises a channelshaped member 16 having inner and outer flanges 18, 17 and, housed within the member, a series of retainer clips 20, Fig. 3, which are held between the flanges by their own resiliency and have a resilient locking portion 25. The moulding may be a continuous metal member in the form of a closed figure shaped to fit the margin of a window opening in a door or other part of a vehicle. The window framing of the vehicle door shown in Fig. 2, comprises an outer body panel 12 which is pressed to provide a curved window reveal 12a and an angular flanging 12b forming the margin of the window opening ; the header 13 of the framing terminates in a panel 14 which is covered by a trim panel 15. The moulding 16 may have a curved web portion intermediate the outer and inner flanges 17, 18 and the inner flange 18 is provided with an inturned lip 19 to engage the trim panel 15. The moulding 16 is installed by pressing it outwardly from the inside of the body and is retained by the clips 20. These comprise a body 21 having flanged ends 23, 24. The resilient locking portion 25 is struck from the body 21 and has a stepped part 26, 27. When inserted in the moulding 16, the clips are held in position by the resiliency of their ends 23, 24; and when the moulding with attached clips is inserted into the window opening, the locking portions 25 of the clips spring past and then positively engage the edge of the panel 14. Removal may be effected by inserting a flat-bladed tool between the edge 19 of the moulding and the trim panel 15 and thereby pressing back the engaging portion of each clip in turn.</p> |
