PURPOSE: A touch and cursor control method for portable terminal and a portable terminal using thereof are provided to execute a suitable program by selecting icon and menu more quickly. CONSTITUTION: An input signal of a location which a user touched is received through a touch screen(S200). A position coordinate of the input signal is saved(S210). The saved position coordinate as described above is detected in the drive of an optical joystick(S220). A cursor is generated in the detected position coordinate as described above(S230). The position coordinate saved value is the mean value of X coordinate value and Y coordinate value of the domain frame touched in the touch screen.
