A wireless apparatus operative to estimate available transmission power in a wireless communications system, the system supporting packet data transmissions and low delay data transmissions over a plurality of transmission channels, the apparatus comprising means for receiving a pilot signal, means for filtering noise components from the received pilot signal and means for estimating a transmission power available in the system after transmission of the low delay data transmissions based on results of the filtering.
