<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize decrease in a printing speed without forming an extra toner image when changing the number of light beams. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming device has a plurality of LDs whose lighting is controlled in accordance with image data, an LD control section 205 for controlling the luminous energy of each of the LDs, a light beam scanner 21 including a polygon mirror 121 to deflect a plurality of light beams in the main scanning direction, a printer control section 201 and an LD control section 205 for reducing the number of emitted light beams of the LDs in accordance with the reduction of the linear velocity of imaging of the light beam scanner and making light beam scans to be carried out, an image forming section for manifesting a latent image written on a photoreceptor drum 40 by the light beam scanner and forming a visible image on paper.
