PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a path and intermediate products facilitating the extremely swiftly forming an electroconductive poly(ethylene-3,4-dioxythiophene). SOLUTION: A method for producing the compound of general formula I is provided, comprising conducting a reaction between the compound of general formula I and a compound of general formula II with each other in the presence of a Lewis acid and/or a protonic acid as catalyst(s). Besides, a method for producing a neutral or cationic polythiophene of general formula III is provided, comprising oxidatively polymerizing at least one kind of the compound of general formula I by a chemical or electrochemical process.
