PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin injection-type light modulator having low electric power consumption and high magneto-optical performance. SOLUTION: The spin injection-type SLM (Spatial Light Modulator) exhibits inversion of magnetization directions by spin injection and includes: a laminate element body including a magnetization direction variable layer (40) in which the magnetization direction is inverted by spin injection; a magnetization direction pinned layer (20) in which the magnetization direction is fixed; and a nonmagnetic intermediate layer (30) interposed between the magnetization direction variable layer (40) and the magnetization pinned layer (20), wherein the nonmagnetic intermediate layer includes a semiconductor material.
