PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle motor, and a manufacturing method thereof, for stabilizing a distance between a disc surface and a head with no variation by a method for mass production. SOLUTION: In a manufacturing step of a spindle motor 20, an index 6c which is attached to an outside surface of a spindle assembly 30 in advance and indicates a direction toward a top or bottom point in inclination of a disc placement surface 6b is so set as to be arranged along the direction orthogonal to the advancing direction of a head 12 when the spindle assembly 30 is fixed to a base assembly 10.
