PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch a notifying operation in accordance with the ambient situation regardless of information from an external device. SOLUTION: A reference signal output section 220 outputs a reference signal for determining a situation around a cellular phone 100 using sonic waves. A sound detection section 210 generates a detection sound signal indicating a strength of the sonic waves by detecting the reference signal outputted from the reference signal output section 220. A call arrival mode switching section 200 determines whether or not the cellular phone 100 is surrounded based on the detection sound signal from the sound detection section 210 and switches a call arrival mode based on a result of the determination. When a call arrival signal is provided from a control section 120, the call arrival mode switching section 200 then instructs either a notification sound signal-generating section 151 or a notification vibration signal-generating section 161 to generate a notification signal in accordance with the call arrival mode after switching based on the result of the determination.
