PURPOSE: A video file providing system and a method are provided to provide contents index for a transmitter thereby a receiver easily playing and controlling the video contents in video file. CONSTITUTION: A video file is registered(311). If the video file is requested from a client(313), the video file is transmitted to the client(315). If the video file is received, the contents index is analyzed(317). The video content is analyzed(319). A video header displaying whether exist of the contents index is generated.
