Proliferation signature and prognosis for gastrointestinal cancer

Provided is a method of predicting the likelihood of long-term survival of a gastrointestinal cancer patient without the recurrence of gastrointestinal cancer, comprising determining the expression level of one or more prognostic RNA transcripts or their expression products in a gastrointestinal sample obtained from the patient, normalized against the expression level of all RNA transcripts or their products in the gastrointestinal cancer tissue sample, or of a reference set of RNA transcripts or their expression products; wherein the prognostic RNA transcript or expression product comprises the transcript of replication factor (activator 1) 4 (RFC4); and establishing likelihood of long-term survival without gastrointestinal cancer recurrence wherein increased expression of the one or more prognostic RNA transcripts or their expression products indicates an increased likelihood of long-term survival without gastrointestinal cancer recurrence.
