摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device for a vehicle that attains reduction in component cost and eliminates the need for a large-capacity relay and an installation space, even if electric double-layer capacitors, each having a sufficient capacity, are connected in parallel with a battery. SOLUTION: The power supply device for a vehicle assists in driving a starter 8 by electric double-layer capacitors 3a-3d, respectively connected in parallel to a battery 7 through each switch circuit (10). The capacity of each capacitor 3a-3d is smaller than a capacity that allows each capacitor to individually start an engine 1. The device includes a means 5 for connecting one of the capacitors 3a-3d in parallel to the battery 7, when the starter 8 is driven, a means 4 for detecting, in time series; the voltage of the battery 7 when the starter 8 is driven, a means 5 for comparing the levels of the detected voltages so as to detect a period of time from starting detection to detecting a minimum voltage, and a means 5 for determining whether the detected period of time is longer than or equal to a prescribed period of time.
