<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for authenticating authorized use, based on the validity of a combination of an information processing apparatus to be utilized and a removable storage medium storing a password, and that provides a password to a program, etc. requesting the password. <P>SOLUTION: Information representing a production number which is unique to a removable storage medium encrypted, by using a serial number unique to an information processor in valid combination with the removable storage medium is stored in the removable storage medium. When the removable storage medium is attached to the information processing apparatus, the encrypted information is decrypted using the production number as a key; and if the decrypted information agrees with the production number, then a combination of the information processor and the removable storage media can be determined as being valid.
