PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for selective hydrogenation which has a low-pressure loss and suppresses a deterioration of catalytic function due to the pressure loss and a method of refining olefin compounds using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst for selective hydrogenation is characterized by keeping palladium carried by a carrier 10 having a coiled cylindrical material 11 turned spirally at prescribed intervals and a supporting pole 12 joined along the coiled cylindrical material 11 in the axial direction and containing alumina as the main component and highly unsaturated hydrocarbons among olefin compounds, e.g., acetylene in ethylene, propadiene and methylacetylene in propylene, butadiene and ethylacetylene in butene, and diene compounds in decomposed gasoline, are selectively hydrogenated by hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst to refine the olefin compounds.
