Disclosed is an aqueous pigment composition comprising: polyalkylene glycol (such as polyethylene glycol, PEG), and inorganic pigment particles comprising colloidal silica or silicate based particles or aggregates thereof, wherein the polyalkylene glycol makes up 50 to 100 wt% of the total amount of organic material in the composition, and the weight ratio of colloidal silica or silicate based particles or aggregates thereof to organic material in the composition is from 1:3 to 30:1. Also disclosed is the use of the composition for coating paper or paper board.
