The invention relates to a method and a system for reading utility meter data over a network. According to the invention, the method for reading a utility meter comprises the following steps: receiving a meter reading request from a meter reading application, through a communications branch point associated to the utility meter, initiation of a communication session with the utility meter, making a plurality of data requests to the utility meter, receiving a plurality of responses to the respective plurality of requests, formatting the response to the meter reading request and transmitting the same to the meter reading application. The claimed system associated to a utility network comprises a plurality of utility meters capable to read information on a metered product, a plurality of branch points of the utility network capable to interface with the utility meters and receive information on the metered product, and to transfer said information to a preset network address. |
