<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating fetal DNA from blood plasma of pregnant women containing a huge amount of maternal circulatory extracellular DNA. <P>SOLUTION: The method for concentrating the extracellular fetal DNA includes subjecting the DNA prepared from blood plasma or serum sample of pregnant women substantially free from cells to a size separation using high speed liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, density gradient centrifugation or nanotechnological methods, and separating a DNA fragment containing substantially 500 or the less of base pairs.
