<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire grid type polarizer that exhibits sufficient optical performance in a visible area, even when it has a protective layer, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the wire grid type polarizer 1 that has a polarizer body 16 in which a plurality of metallic thin wires 12 are arranged in parallel with one another and a plurality of grooves 14 are formed along the metallic thin wires 12, on a light-transmissive substrate 10, and the protective layer 18 which covers the metallic thin wire 12 side surface of the polarizer body 16, the widths of the grooves 14 are made equal to one another from its bottom to its opening or are made wider gradually towards the opening from the bottom, a liquid curable composition whose surface tension at 25°C is 28 mN/m or less is applied to the metallic thin wire 12 side surface of the polarizer body 16, and the curable composition is cured to form the protective layer 18. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
