PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic and preparation for external use excellent in safety, stability, feeling in use, and the like. SOLUTION: The cosmetic is prepared by addition polymerization of a 2-3C alkylene oxide to a dimer acid and a dimer diol and comprises at least one kind selected from the group consisting of formula (1) polyoxyalkylene dimer diol ether addition polymers and formula (2) polyoxyalkylene dimer acid ester addition polymers. In formulas (1) and (2), a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h are each an integer of≥1; a+b+c+d is in the range of 12-40; e+f+g+h is in the range of 12-40; (RO) and (R'O) are each a single addition polymer of a 2C or 3C alkylene oxide; (RO) and (R'O) are each a block or random addition polymer of 2C and 3C alkylene oxides; n<SB>1</SB>and n<SB>2</SB>are each an integer of 2-200.
