PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device of a passenger conveyor early detecting sinking of a footstep, adopting proper measures, and superior in maintenance workability and durability, when the footstep sinks since derailment of a driving roller of the footstep is caused. SOLUTION: This safety device of the passenger conveyor is equipped with: a rail 15 for guiding and supporting a roller 14 arranged in the footstep 6 of the passenger conveyor; a receiving plate 18 arranged along the longitudinal direction of the rail, displaceably arranged in the predetermined direction, arranged in an ordinary position for forming a clearance of a predetermined dimension between a predetermined part of the footstep and itself in ordinary time and supporting the footstep by abutting on the predetermined part of the footstep in the derailment of the roller from the rail; a displacement detecting means 22 for detecting displacement in the predetermined direction of the receiving plate; and a restoring force energizing means 23 for energizing restoring force for restoring the footstep to the ordinary position, to the displacement in the predetermined direction of the receiving plate.
