PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply discriminate an information amount of embedded information for codes which do not include header information and whose rear half is reversed for every bits of the front half, and to appropriately extract the information. SOLUTION: To process image information embedded with a code which does not include the header information and whose rear half is reversed for every bits of the front half, the image processing apparatus is provided with an image acquisition unit which acquires a processing object image, a symbol series extraction unit which extracts a processing object symbol series of a predetermined length from the acquired processing object image, a bit reversal discrimination unit which discriminates whether or not the front half and the rear half of the extracted processing object symbol series are bit-reversed, an information amount decision unit which decides an information amount corresponding to the predetermined length when the bit reversal discrimination unit discriminates that they are bit-reversed, and an information extraction unit which extracts information from the processing object symbol series based on the decided information amount.
