PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television by which a desired item is easily and quickly selected from among a plurality of items. SOLUTION: A channel explanation table T2 which associates service IDs with service names is stored in a nonvolatile memory 20, selection of any of numerical keys 66 of a remote controller 60 and specification of a retrieval position are accepted, service names which include a character or number associated with the selected numerical key at the retrieval position are retrieved from the channel explanation table T2, the retrieved service names are displayed on a display 16, and any of the displayed service names is made selectable with the remote controller 60.
