A cooling room 200 includes first and second common plenum walls 222, 224 located between the first side wall 36 and the second side wall 38 of a box like housing, and located respectively proximate the first and second side walls to create first and second plenums 218, 220 between the first and second common plenum walls and the first and second side walls respectively, and a treatment zone 216 between the first and second common plenum walls. A flow barrier includes a flat planar member 204 retractably connected to the ceiling 210 of the housing and being retractably extendable from the ceiling into the treatment zone to reduce the overall height of the treatment zone. A row of pallets 222, 224 can be accommodated within the treatment zone. The first and second plenum each has an opening to allow the passage of conditioning air to pass through the plenum and the first and second common plenum walls are provided with a plurality of openings to allow conditioning air to pass between the plenum and the treatment zone. A ventilator communicates with the second opening of the second plenum to provide circulation to the conditioning air.
