PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus which can collect foreign matter by imitating the driving environment of a magnetic disk unit. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus for collecting foreign matter at a suction flow rate corresponding to an air flow speed generated when driving the magnetic disk unit, sucked and collected foreign matter is caught in liquid, and the foreign matter caught in the liquid is collected only in a narrow area on a high density filter.
