PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding material having performances such as high rigidity (flexural elastic modulus), good flexural strength, and heat resistance, and further having good impact resistance (Charpy impact strength), excellent flame retardancy and scratch resistance, and to provide a molded article. SOLUTION: The molding material comprises a cellulose derivative wherein the hydrogen atoms of hydroxyl groups contained in the cellulose contain at least one of a group replaced by the following (A) and at least one of a group replaced by the following (B), and a metal hydroxide.
