PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon microparticle that has a narrow particle size distribution and a high degree of graphitization, and an easy method for manufacturing the carbon microparticle having a narrow particle size distribution and a high quality. SOLUTION: The carbon microparticle is obtained by: mixing a polymer A such as a polyacrylonitrile copolymer microparticle comprising a copolymer of an acrylonitrile monomer and a hydrophilic vinyl monomer with a polymer B that is different from the polymer A in an organic solvent; forming an emulsion comprising a polymer A solution phase and a polymer B solution phase; precipitating the polymer A, thereby producing a polymer microparticle; and carbonizing and firing the obtained polymer microparticle.
