PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase of manufacturing cost of a square battery to the minimum, and prevent foreign matters from infiltrating. SOLUTION: Tolerances ofδ1≤δ≤δ2 are set for a gapδbetween a fitting-in part 9I and an opening part 13M in a narrow-width side face 13N. With setting of the tolerances, an open end face 13Mb of a length bc of 0<T-(b-δ1)≤bc≤T-(b-δ2) is left at an end face of the narrow-width side face 13N in the opening part 13M. The length bc is so set that a corner part formed of a short side of a flange part 9F and an opening end face 13Wa can be laser-beam welded by fillet welding. With this, a battery lid 9 and the battery container 13 can be jointed together with enough strength, so that mixing-in of foreign matters like sputter in the narrow-width side face 13N can be prevented.
