<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction, with respect to a discharge lamp lighting device and lighting method, in which light of the lamp is prevented from fading away due to variation in arc at the time of start of lighting, while staggering of arc during steady lighting is also prevented, the discharge lamp lighting device being provided with discharge lamp to be horizontally lighted and a power supply device that lights the discharge lamp. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic flux supply means is prepared in the vicinity of the discharge lamp, while, upon application of starting voltage to the discharge lamp, a magnetic flux is supplied from the magnetic flux supply means to a direction in which arc is induced downwards, after which, when the discharge lamp has come to be in a steady condition, control is characteristically so exercised that magnetic flux density is reduced to a degree smaller than that of the density of the magnetic flux at the time of applying starting voltage. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
