Disclosed herein are desazadeferrithiocin analogues of the formula given, wherein the substituents are as defined within in the specification, particularly 4,5-dihydro-2-[2-hydroxy-3-(3,6,9-trioxadecyloxy)phenyl]-4-methyl-thiazolecarboxylic acid and racemic mixtures thereof, compositions comprising said analogues, use of said compounds and compositions in treating pathological conditions responsive to chelation or sequestration of a trivalent metal in a subject such as iron overload, diabetes, liver disease, Friedreich ataxia (FRDA), heart disease and cancer. |
