PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a sample image with high definition at a high speed.SOLUTION: The position of a living body sample SPL in an imaging range AR is detected based upon a thumbnail image SNG including the whole living body sample SPL, a detection image picked up in a readout region PRA set based upon the position of the living body sample SPL is acquired, and a focusing position in the imaging range AR is determined based upon the acquired detection image, so focusing on the living body sample SPL is performed with high precision at a high speed so as to obtain an enlarged image with high definition at a high speed.
