PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anthracene derivative having specific characteristics of anthracene and a diversity of reactions, a resin having high functionality that is obtained from the anthracene derivative and can be applied to a variety of technical fields, and a composition and the like containing the anthracene derivative or the resin.SOLUTION: There are provided the anthracene derivative represented by formula (1), the resin obtained from the anthracene derivative, the composition containing the anthracene derivative or the resin, and a cured product of the composition, (wherein X and Y are each independently a hydroxyaryl group formed by substituting one or two or more hydrogen atoms on an aromatic ring with CHOZ, wherein a plurality of Z are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group).
