PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the shape of a connecting part in a closed ring paste pattern.SOLUTION: The paste applying device 1 includes: a discharging part 4 for discharging a paste material to the surface of an object K to be applied; a driving part 3 for moving the object K and the discharging part 4 relatively along the surface of the object K; a control device 7 for controlling the discharge part 4 and the driving part 3 so that the paste material is applied on the surface of the object K in a closed ring shape; and a detecting part 6 for detecting the application start point of the paste material discharged from the discharging part 4 and applied on the surface of the object K. The control device 7 sets the application closing operation start point of the paste material in accordance with the application start point detected by the detecting part 6 during the discharge of the paste material.
