<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polycarbonate resin excellent in hue or heat stability. <P>SOLUTION: In this method for producing a polycarbonate resin from a dihydroxy compound containing a compound shown by formula (1) as a main component, the content rate of a compound shown by formula (2) is below 100 ppm. (In the formula (1), R<SB POS="POST">1</SB>and R<SB POS="POST">2</SB>show each independently a substituted or unsubstituted 1-20 C alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and X shows a single bond, a carbonyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkylidene group, a substituted or unsubstituted sulfur atom, or an oxygen atom).
