<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor with improved excitation/emission characteristics and to provide a light-emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: The phosphor contains silicon and magnesium as starting raw materials and comprises manganese as a luminescence center atom and has the composition: (Cu<SB POS="POST">1-z</SB>Mg<SB POS="POST">z</SB>)(Al<SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>Ga<SB POS="POST">x</SB>)(S<SB POS="POST">1-y</SB>Se<SB POS="POST">y</SB>)<SB POS="POST">2</SB>:Mn, Si (wherein 0≤x≤0.4 and 0≤y≤0.4). The phosphor can be produced by: firstly mixing Cu<SB POS="POST">2</SB>S, Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>S<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, MnS, Si, and MgS at a predetermined ratio which is a ratio such that Cu, Al, Mn, Si, and Mg present in the phosphor meet the molar ratio corresponding to the composition; further adding sulfur to the mixture of Cu<SB POS="POST">2</SB>S, Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>S<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, MnS, Si, and MgS to mix the obtained mixture; and firing the resulting mixture in an argon atmosphere at a firing temperature of 1,100°C for one hour. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
