[Class 89 (i)] A nut comprises a flexible sheet metal base 6 with a pair of substantially rigid tongues 8 normally forming an opening 11 smaller than the maximum bolt diameter, the base being sprung into the arched position shown in Fig. 9 to enlarge the opening so that the tongues pass over the bolt without substantially altering the angle H between the tongues and the adjacent part of the base. When the bolt is tightened the base is flattened, Fig. 10, and the tongues locked firmly against the bolt threads. In one form the base may have relatively narrow flexible parts 7, Fig. 2. One of the modified forms of base is shown in Fig. 7.
