Disclosed are a method and apparatus for discrete cosine transform/inverse discrete cosine transform. The method for discrete cosine transform/inverse discrete cosine transform comprises: generating a table index with respect to only input values which are not zero among input values according to each coordinate in an input block; reading one or more part values coinciding with the table index from a plurality of table information, which has been generated to include part values resulting from the multiplication of a weight and an index and is stored in advance; and performing the addition of the read part values, thereby calculating a result value according to each coordinate in an output block. According to the present invention, it is possible to rapidly perform the discrete cosine transform (DCT)/inverse discrete cosine transform (IDCT), and to minimize the amount of power consumption for the transformation.
