<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of determining which of a transparent guide plate and an opposing member such as a white reference member a foreign matter adheres to. <P>SOLUTION: Respective LEDs 82 of an illumination part are selectively turned on or off to vary the shadow of the foreign matter on the white reference member 66a. Whenever the shadow is varied, the shadow is read by a CCD, and respective read images obtained by reading a plurality of times are compared with each other to determine which of the transparent guide plate 65 and the white reference member 66a the foreign matter adheres to, from the positional variation of the shadow of the foreign matter, the gradation change of the read image, or the positional relation between the image and the shadow of the foreign matter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
