Portable terminal having mobile access point function and method for providing wireless LAN service thereof

PURPOSE: A portable terminal operating as a mobile AP(Access Point) and WLAN(Wireless Local Area) network providing method thereof are provided to offer a WLAN service by using an idle band of broadcast bands. CONSTITUTION: A communication unit(220) communicates with a base station. When a mode is changed in order to operate a portable terminal(200) as a mobile AP, a control unit(250) requests information for an idle channel of broadcast bands to the base station. The control unit provides a WLAN service to adjacent apparatuses by using the idle channel information received from the base station.
