The present invention provides a method for producing an L-amino acid in which bacteria belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae having L-amino acid-producing capability is cultured in a medium containing a carbon source selected from fatty acids and alcohol and the L-amino acid is collected from this culture medium, wherein bacteria that have been modified to enhance expression of the oxyS gene, enhance expression of the fixABC gene, or a combination of these is used as the aforementioned bacteria, or a substance that reduces the hydrogen peroxide concentration inside the cells of the aforementioned bacteria is added to the culture medium.
