<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable attenuator that implements a compact circuit size while suppressing a pass phase difference at state switching. <P>SOLUTION: The variable attenuator includes a first input/output terminal 1a, a second input/output terminal 1b, a first FET 2a as a first switching element, a second FET 2b as a second switching element, a first resistor 3a, a second resistor 3b, a third resistor 3c, a first inductor 4a and a second inductor 4b. The inductance of the first inductor 4a is set beforehand at a value resonant with an off capacitance of the first FET 2a at an operating frequency.
