PURPOSE: A backlight unit is provided to increase uniformity of brightness while providing advantages of an edge type. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit adjusts strengths and/or light emitting frequencies of light source units(501~50n,511~51n). The strengths of the light source units are determined based on an aspect ratio, the size of a screen, and the number of light sources. A light source on a vertical side of a rectangular panel outputs light of a strength stronger than the strength of light outputted from a light source on a horizontal side of the rectangular panel. |
