PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for managing a battery based on differential soc estimation and a battery pack using the same are provided to continuously allow substantial and high efficient SOC(State Of Charge) estimation since a SOC estimation mode can be adaptively changed regardless of malfunction or failure of a current sensor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(100) for managing a battery comprises a voltage sensor(110), a current sensor(120), a malfunction sensing unit(140), a control unit(150), a first estimating unit(160), and a second estimating unit(170). The voltage sensor measures a voltage in a battery. The current sensor measures a current in the battery. The malfunction sensing unit outputs a signal for the normality of the current sensor. The first estimating unit estimates the SOC of the battery based on a parameter including the current measured in the battery. The second estimating unit estimates the SOC of the battery based on the parameter for the voltage measured in the battery. The control unit controls the drive of the first estimating unit when the current sensor is normal. The control unit differentially controls the drive of the second estimating unit when the current sensor is abnormal.
