摘要 <p>A catalytic converter is used to reduce emission of pollutants (CO. The procedure, in which a catalytic converter is used to reduce emission of pollutants (CO. HC, NOx) from i.c. engine exhaust gases, includes a clearance mode (A) in which fuel is fed into the converter to eliminate oxygen, following a mode in which no fuel is delivered to the combustion chamber. The clearance mode consists of an initial phase (A1) using a richer fuel/air mixture, followed by a phase (A2) with a leaner mixture before returning to a normal operating mode. During the initial phase the lambda value is 0.85 - 0.95 and during the second phase it is 0.95 - 0.99 where the normal value is 1.0.</p>
