摘要 Disclosed is a method (1100) for calculating residual chromatic dispersion of an optical transmission channel. The method includes the steps of generating, by a transmitter device, optical pulses that include light of two different frequencies (1120). The generating step includes separating light into two optical pulses that each correspond to different frequencies. These pulses are then output into an optical channel. The optical pulses are then received from the optical channel and their arrival times measured (1130). Based on the arrival times of the pulses, a calculation is made of a relative group delay difference for each of the two frequencies of the optical pulses (1150). This relative group delay difference is then used, in combination with the frequency difference of the two light pulses, to calculate a residual chromatic dispersion of the optical transmission channel (1160). A system for implementing the method (1100) is also disclosed.
