<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercom system capable of improving a security function when a resident is away from home by allowing passive sensors for confirming the safety of the resident to be used for monitoring the behavior of an intruder. <P>SOLUTION: An intercom system 1 includes: a room master unit 2 to be arranged in a room; an entrance slave unit 3 for making a call with the room master unit 2; and passive sensors 4 for detecting the movement of a person in multiple rooms. When the passive sensor 4 detects an abnormality, the entrance slave unit 3 issues alarm sound from a speaker 26. The room master unit 2 includes a security CPU 12 for managing the security of a residence. The security CPU 12 uses the passive sensors 4 in order to confirm the safety of a resident when the resident stays home, and uses the passive sensors 4 in order to monitor the behavior of an intruder when the resident is away from home.
