摘要 PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for allocating bits in an optical network system are provided to automatically allocate bits by using an algorithm applicable to a plug-and-play method. CONSTITUTION: A tone signal transmission part(201) transmits a maximum tone signal which can be transmitted in an optical network system from a light transmitter to a light receiver. A SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) measuring part(203) measures a SNR of each subcarrier in tone signal transmission. An error vector magnitude calculation part(205) calculates an error vector magnitude for each subcarrier using the SNR measured in the SNR measuring part. A bit number calculation part(207) calculates the maximum number of bits which can be transmitted from subcarriers using the error vector magnitude and a lossless transmission request bit error rate. A bit number allocation part(209) allocates the number of the bits calculated with respect to each subcarrier in the bit number calculation part to each subcarrier.
