REVERSE LINK CHANNEL ARCHITECTURE FOR A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method and apparatus for transmitting data on a reverse link of a wireless communication system. Frames of data are transmitted on the reverse link via a data channel and temporarily retained in a buffer. A forward link is monitored for a message indicating a received status of the transmitted data frame. The data frame is processed based on the received message. The data frame may be retransmitted if the message indicates that the transmitted data frame was incorrectly received or discarded if the message indicates that the transmitted data frame was correctly received.
