<p>Process for preparing tropenol of formula (I), optionally in the form of the acid addition salts thereof, in which scopine esters such as scopolamine, optionally in the form of the acid addition salts thereof as well as optionally in the form of the hydrates thereof, are reduced in water using zinc in the presence of activating metal salt, preferably in the presence of activating iron or copper salts, and subsequently are saponified using suitable base to obtain tropenol of formula (I). Tropenol may be used as a starting compound in the preparation of pharmacologically active compounds, for example of tiotropium bromide.</p> |
